‘Everybody likes everything these days. The whole world is a nerd.’
‘Are you mad because other people like Star Wars? Are you mad because people like me like Star Wars?’

If you broke Elena’s heart, Star Wars would spill out. So when she decides to queue outside her local cinema to see the new movie, she’s expecting a celebration with crowds of people who love Han, Luke and Leia just as much as she does. What she’s not expecting is to be last in a line of only three people; to have to pee into a collectible Star Wars soda cup behind a dumpster or to meet that unlikely someone who just might truly understand the way she feels.

I was overjoyed when I found out that Rainbow Rowell was writing a short story for World Book Day. I LOVED Eleanor and Park and Fangirl, and so I was so excited to read Kindred Spirits. And I was not disappointed! Once again, Rainbow Rowell has managed to perfectly encapsulate what it’s like to be in a fandom. And, in true Rainbow Rowell style, Kindred Spirits was sweet and adorable and fun – I never wanted it to end!

Elena, the main character, is ecstatic at the prospect of a new Star Wars film. She can hardly wait, and decides to join the line outside of the theater days before the film’s release. Only, the line turns out to be just two people – Troy and Gabe. Despite this, Elena stays in line and camps out. Following this is a hilarious and heartwarming string of events that kept the book glued to my hands!

I loved the characters in this story – they were all so funny and relatable. I loved how they were all so different yet were brought together by their shared love of Star Wars, and when they were together, their interactions were funny and Star Wars-y and adorable. There was never a dull moment with these three.

The writing was amazing. This is a book that you can fly through in no time at all, loving every. Single. Page. I need more!

Kindred Spirits is a book that makes you feel warm and fuzzy and happy. I loved it so much! ★★★★.5
