Description:
The Devil Wears Prada meets Sex and the City in a wickedly funny debut novel about a girl who lands a dream internship at a magazine in New York City. If only she hadn’t lied about being a dating expert on her resume . .
Harper Anderson has always thought she should have been born somewhere more glamorous than her sleepy Northern California suburb. After all, how many water polo matches and lame parties in Bobby McKittrick’s backyard can one girl take?
Already resigned to working at a Skinny B’s Juice Press for the summer, Harper is shocked when the ultra-prestigious teen magazine, Shift, calls to say they want her to be their teen dating blogger for the summer. All she needs to do is get her butt to New York in two days.
There’s just one teeny, tiny problem: Apart from some dance floor make-outs, Harper doesn’t have a whole lot of dating experience. So when Shift’s application asked for an “edgy” personal essay, Harper might have misappropriated her best friend’s experiences for her own. But she can just learn on the job…right? Will the house of lies Harper has built around her dream job collapse all around her, or will she be able to fake it until she makes it in the big city?

My review:
Thank you to Rockstar Book Tours and Simon and Schuster for sending an ARC of Little Black Dresses, Little White Lies my way!
Little Black Dresses, Little White Lies was such a fun, cute read with a hilarious plot line infused with the perfect amount of drama, romance and friendship that is sure to keep you hooked. It is the perfect book for the summer!
I loved Harper, especially towards the beginning of the book, when she’s thrown into this new world, completely unprepared. She was so relatable and awkward as she tried to navigate life in New York and writing a dating blog for which she has no experience. She soon realises that she needs to get out and find a date to write about. Cue some hilarious attempts at talking to boys in bookshops and quite a few embarrassing mishaps, and you there you have something to write about. But McKayla, Harper’s boss, wants more edgier stories, something juicy, out there. You can imagine how this goes. And although some of her actions were questionable at times, Harper’s fun, smart, sarcastic and witty nature continued to amuse throughout the novel, and she was such a great character to read about.
There were so many more amazing characters in this book – Kristina, Ben, Gigi, Aunt Vee, Princess the pug – who were all so different and quirky in their own ways and were all so much fun. I loved that there was quite a bit of focus on friendships in this book, and their importance, instead of just focusing on the romance.
I really felt like Harper developed as a character quite a bit throughout the novel. She learns a lot, and realises that she doesn’t need to change herself for people to like her, and that she should be true to herself and her writing.
Stampler’s writing style in this book was fun, engaging, and completely addicting. I felt compelled to keep reading, to find out what happens next. And I was not disappointed!
There are also a lot of dogs in this book – so, you know, that’s also a great reason to read it.
