Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week they suggest a new theme for bloggers to write about. This week’s theme was ‘Books On My TBR I’m Avoiding Reading and Why.’ I struggled to come up with ten, so there are only six this week!
Every person I know who has read The Book Thief has rated it highly which really makes me want to read it, but I’ve also heard that it’s one that is certain to make you cry. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good book to make you cry, but I just need to work myself up to it!
I was really excited about Stealing Snow before it came out, and I pre-ordered a copy, but then I heard that it didn’t live up to the hype for a lot of people. I still want to read it, but it just means that I’ll go into it with fewer expectations.
I know, I know. I’m ashamed with myself, but I haven’t read ANY of the Harry Potter books. I can’t even pinpoint exactly why I haven’t read them, but I think it might be because they’re so hyped and I don’t want to be disappointed! That, and I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. I hope to read them soon though.
It’s probably obvious why I’m so late to read this book — it’s huge! Which is great, but it’ll probably take me a while to read it so I think I’m going to plan to read this one over the Christmas break.
I’ve had a copy of Lady Midnight waiting to be read since it came out, but for the same reason that I haven’t read The Priory of the Orange Tree, I just haven’t gotten to it even though I have the feeling that I’ll love it.
I remember the buzz that Asking For It got around it’s release. I’ve heard that it’s a very powerful and important book, but it also sounds very heavy which is why I haven’t yet picked it up.
❤
What books have you been putting off reading? Have you read any of these? Let me know in the comments!
I had only read the first Harry Potter when I became a librarian, and the children teased me unmercifully. I gave in and read the whole series. Thank you, Marek Elementary students!

Haha, it’s suprising how many people look really shocked when you tell them you’ve never read Harry Potter!

Yeah, The Book Thief is definitely a tearjerker. Good for you for waiting until you’re emotionally ready for that.

Great TTT!!! I hope you read Asking For It soon. It’s such an important book with how it completely lays open the pervasiveness of rape culture in society for everyone to see.

Interesting choices. I read the first two HP books and possibly the third–too long ago. It’s not really my thing, but I did find I loved some of the characters.

Thank you! I definitely get that, I was never really interested in reading them until recent years but I am curious to see if I will like them.

If you’ve seen the movies I’d say move on. Purists will scoff, but….

I will not read HP in a box. I will not read HP with a fox. I will not read HP if I get the tox…
I love the movies and I’m my flag is planted on that hill.

I feel the same way about holding back from reading The Book Thief, I think it will be way too sad for me. Great list!

Hmm… so… Confession time. I didn’t like the Book Thief. Not sure if it was something about Zusak’s writing style, or the story itself, but I kinda wished it was over as soon as I picked it up. I also think that there are some better books out there about this time period in our history. But that’s just me… 🙂

It’s good to hear another opinion, especially since it’s been so hyped! It can be a bit daunting going into it when so many people have rated it so highly and everyone seems to love it because what if I don’t?! Thank you for reading! 😄

I love both the Harry Potter series and the Book Thief so it breaks my heart that you haven’t read them!

The Book Thief gave me the chills and, in a lot of ways, changed the way I read as a teenager that first time I read it. It most certainly is one of those novels that makes you cry, but so very worth it! So, here’s to hoping that when/if you get to it, you enjoy it!

I think the heaviness has kept me from picking up Asking for It too. I own it, and I know lots of my friends loved it, but you definitely have to be in a good state of mind to read that sort of book.

Definitely! It’s good to prepare yourself for a book that has such heavy themes.

Oh I haven’t read The Book Thief either and you’re right, everyone who has recommends it incessantly. I guess we’re missing out on something great.
Great list!
