My Favourite Book Quotes

Top Ten Tuesday was created by  The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.  Each week they suggest a new theme for bloggers to write about. This week’s topic was ‘favourite book quotes.’ I always say I’m going to use sticky notes to keep track of my favourite quotes in books, but I can *probably* count on one hand the amount of times I’ve actually done it. There are most definitely so many more quotes that I’m forgetting to include, but most of my books are currently in storage so I had to rely on Goodreads and quotes from my Kindle books for most of these. Maybe when my books finally come out of storage I’ll do an update post with more quotes! 🙂

“What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again.”

Mockingjay. I actually wrote my dissertation on the Hunger Games books (peak booknerd, I know), and so I spent a lot of time going over them again and this quote was always the one that stood out to me, even after all the time that has passed since I first read it when I was 13!

“We hunt the flame, the light in the darkness, the good this world deserves.”

We Hunt the Flame. I love the big brain feeling I get when the title is mentioned inside the book, and I especially love how beautifully written this quote (and the entire book) was.

“Hill House, not sane, stood by itself against its hills, holding darkness within; it had stood so for eighty years and might stand for eighty more. Within, walls continued upright, bricks met neatly, floors were firm, and doors were sensibly shut; silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone.”

— The Haunting of Hill House. These are some of my favourite opening lines ever. There’s just something about them that gives me chills every time!

“I turned my nightmares into fireflies and caught them in a jar.”

Strange the Dreamer. There are probably a dozen quotes that I could pick out from the Strange the Dreamer duology — they are two of the most gorgeously written books I’ve ever read.

“It was impossible, of course. But when did that ever stop any dreamer from dreaming?”

Strange the Dreamer. I couldn’t help myself! I had to include this Strange quote, too. I feel like this one is just iconic, and honestly, talking about them has made me want to reread.

“Fear is only your enemy if you allow it to be.”

An Ember in the Ashes. It’s been way too long since I first picked up An Ember in the Ashes and I am definitely overdue for a reread before I pick up book 3, and book 4 comes out. But I remember reading this quote for the first time, and it has been engrained in my memory because I also have a book pouch which I use all the time with this quote on it.

“You are not weak. You are not indecisive. You are strong. Fierce. Capable beyond measure.”

The Wrath and the Dawn. This quote made me so nostalgic! I adored this book when I first read it, and I remember being obsessed with this quote. I actually still need to pick up book 2, so maybe a reread of this book is in order, too.

Have you read any of these books? What quotes stuck out to you? let me know your thoughts in the comments!
