Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created and hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week they suggest a new theme with a list for bloggers to choose from. This week was books that weren’t my typical genre/were out of my comfort zone.
I don’t actually know why this is, but I never really read that much sci-fi, even though every sci-fi book I’ve read, I loved.
Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff was one of these.
Re-tellings were something that I hadn’t read at all until last year. And then I read quite a few of them (all were amazing!)
These were:
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
And The Wrath and the Dawn by Reneé Ahdieh.
Both of these were fantasy retellings, and they were both gorgeously written with their own spins on them. I CANNOT WAIT for each of their sequels this year! 🙂
I’ve read a lot of contemporary, but I was quite shocked to find that I hadn’t, until last year again, read many that had a huge, main focus on mental health.
One of these was:
Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella
This book showed social anxiety in a way that is real, and honest.
This wasn’t out of my comfort zone, but it is something that needs to be spoken about in books more, and topics like this are being spoken about more, which is great! I’m definitely going to try and read more books that focus on mental health this year.
These are only five of the books that weren’t my typical genre/ were out of my comfort zone but some of the books on my TBR that are from genres that I haven’t read much of and want to read more of are:
Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera
These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Legend by Marie Lu
What are some of the books you’ve recently enjoyed that weren’t your typical choice?
That’s great that you enjoyed the retellings! Retellings are one of my favourite genres of novels at the moment!! I’m just dying to get my hands on the sequels of both of those two.
Here’s my TTT!

You should try On the Edge of Gone by Corinne Duyvis. Its sci-fi with a main character that has autism. Not quite mental health, but I think you’d find it fascinating. My TTT
